Every year, hundreds of dogs end up at the Minidoka Animal Control Facility.

URGENT NEED!  Some days are better than others when you are in the Animal Rescue field.  January 30, 2010 was a hard day for all of us here at Waggin' Tails Rescue.  We ended up euthanizing 2 dogs, and parvo testing three more.   We were faced with hard decisions to make.  It was either euthanize 9 puppies at an expense of $800, or take the risk that we would be able to save them by putting them in quarantine at an expense of $700.  We opted to try to save these little guys.  On the upside of things, we were able to get a transport together headed toward British Columbia, Canada, thanks to our volunteers.  Frankly, today we were financially hit very hard.  We depend on donations and our fundraisers to keep us going.  All our transports are done by the kindess of our volunteers.  No one is paid in our rescue.  If you can find it in your heart, we could sure use some cash right now.   Thanks to donors, we have an abundant supply of dog food, leashes, and collars. 

The dogs we take into foster and adopt out help us help other dogs.  I'm working on completing our stats.  This number is incomplete, but so far: 

Through our Foster Program, we have been able to spay and neuter 164 dogs since May of 2008.

MISSION STATEMENT:  Waggin’ Tails Rescue, Inc.  is a group of volunteer dog lovers whose mission is to rescue, provide sanctuary, and ultimately to re-home abandoned, stray and neglected dogs found in Minidoka County and the surrounding areas. Whenever possible we also assist dogs who, because of extenuating circumstances, are unable to remain in their homes with their owners. We are dedicated to continuing to educate the public on animal welfare issues such as vaccinations, spaying and neutering, as well as helping our community end unnecessary euthanasia.

A Little Bit About Us:  A group of us started working with the Minidoka Animal Control Shelter in January of 2008.  We attended the Animal Control Board Meetings and learned all we could about how the shelter was ran.  We asked questions and, more importantly, we listened.  What makes the Minidoka Animal Control Board such an interesting group to work with is that it is operated by a Joint Powers Agreement.  It is the only county-ran shelter in the entire state of Idaho.  It is supported largely by Minidoka County and the City of Rupert.  Other entities include:  City of Acequia, City of Minidoka, and the City of Paul.

Before We Started:  Over 70% of the dogs taken to the shelter were euthanized.  In the first six months of 2008, it was not unusual to have 50 dogs a month put down.  That broke our hearts.  In one week in June, 2009, we rescued 35 dogs from the Minidoka Shelter.

Just what is it we do?  The most frequently asked question we get is "Where is our holding facility?"  Well, the truth is, we do not have a holding facility.  We do not have the resources to hold dogs.  We work closely with several rescues throughout Idaho, Wyoming, Utah, and Washington in a massive relocation program.  We have Transport Teams that move dogs to other environments where they can be properly taken care of and found new homes.  Our Transport Teams are a vital part of our organization. 

Our Foster Program:  When we find a dog that has what we believe are outstanding qualities, we try to place them in our Foster Program.  It is with our Foster Program that the dogs get individual attention whether that be in the areas of training, nutrition, or medical care.  These foster dogs are placed in individual homes where they are held until they are adopted.  If you have room for one more, even if it is for a short time, please contact us to become a part of our Foster Program.

Puppy Vaccination Program:
We need your help to continue our Puppy Vaccination Program.  Currently, Waggin' Tails Rescue is vaccinating every puppy that comes into the Minidoka Animal Shelter.  Without these vaccinations, it is highly unlikely that these pups will survive.  Please help us continue this life-saving program by donating today.

* Vaccinate all your pets.
* License your dogs.

Giving Back to the Community:
We are proud of our rescued dogs. 
    Four have gone on to become K-9 Detectives.
    One is now a certified Therapy Pet.
